VMKC 48009 Mirage 5P/P3/P4 conversion

The Dassault Mirage 5 is a French supersonic attack aircraft/fighter-bomber developed by Dassault Aviation from its popular Mirage III, creating several variants which differentiate each from the other by the customer requirements. Peru first ordered 12 Mirage 5P, a simplified version devoid of radar and optimized for interdiction roles. However, during its operative life the Peruvian Air Force performed a number of upgrades to the Mirage 5P fleet, mostly related to navigation and comunication upgrades, but also wiring was modified to allow the Mirage 5P to carry the Vympel R-3S missiles. In the early eighties, with the arrival of the Mirage 2000, the decision to upgrade the M5P fleet to dedicated ground attack role was taken and a number of aircraft were upgraded with the fitting of a Laser Range Finder, new navigation computer and in flight refuelling system becoming the Mirage 5P4, while other non upgraded aircraft were sold to Argentina where they served as the Mirage 5P Mara.
