Description
Fabrica Nacional de Aviones Caproni Peruana (Caproni Peruana National Aircraft Factory)
Caproni Peruana was the national aircraft manufacturer in Peru during the late 1930s. It was a subsidiary of the major Italian manufacturer Caproni, set up at a time when Fascist Italy’s aeronautical prestige was at it highest and Mussolini was trying to gain influence across Latin America. Its aircraft carried most of the aerial action in the brief war with Ecuador in 1941, including the first operational paratroop drop in the Western Hemisphere.
Largely based on original primary research, brings published knowledge of this little known manufacturer and its aircraft up to the highest international standards, containing a complete history of the company, a technical history of the various types of aircraft it designed, built under licence or assembled (Ca.100PR trainer, Ca.114 fighter, and Ca.111, Ca.135 and Ca.310 bombers) and of their operations. Particular Peruvian conditions led to all the Caproni types in question, some of which were only built for or by Peru, differing from their Italian originals, often in major ways such as armament, fuselage structure, landing gear, or engines. The book also discusses other Caproni projects in or for Peru (such as the Caproni-Vizzola F.5 fighter and the Caproni-Preddapio Ca.602 trainer) stopped by the outbreak of war.
Text is accompanied by around 100 illustrations with captions in English and, because of the high quality paper and printing used, they are of the highest possible reproductive accuracy.
