VMKC 48012 Mirage 5F/50FC/J/Nesher-Dagger/ROSE II/ROSE III conversion

The Mirage 5F is a single-engine, single-seat, supersonic strike aircraft developed out of a request by Israel for a variant of the Mirage IIIE replacing avionics with fuel storage to increase range and reduce cost and maintenance. The aircraft, however, were embargoed by France which eventually pressed them into service with Armée de l’Air under the Mirage 5F designation. In 1990 Pakistan bought 33 Mirage 5Fs, 14 of which were upgraded as part of project ROSE (Retrofit Of Strike Element) in 2004. This program introduced an Iris FLIR, Pakistan’s Margala Electronics, AWC MOHAFIZ CounterMeasures System, and Italian Company Salex Galileo HUD, HOTAS, FIAR Grifo M3 radar. Some aircraft were provided with air refueling capabilities. The aircraft operated with the No.27 Tactical Attack “Zarrar” Squadron specialized in night-time surface strike missions.

In 1979 Chilean Air Force ordered 8 modified Mirage 5Fs which were fitted with the more powerful Snecma Atar 9K-50, which were renamed Mirage 50FC. Another characteristic feature are the increased area air intakes and aerodynamic splitter plates.
